Cyclists and motorcyclists rode a parade for greater traffic safety
Skopje, 13.05.2023 Over 100 cyclists and over 30 motorcyclists rode in the parade under the motto „I watch out and drive carefully “which was held in Skopje. The purpose of the parade is to raise awareness for greater safety of cyclists and motorcyclists in traffic, as well as the use of protective equipment.
The defile was organized by the Republic Road Safety Council (RSBSP), and the partners were OKTA company, Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Faculty of Safety from Skopje and Red Cross. Cyclists and motorcyclists started from different locations, and finished the parade on the plateau in front of the Sport Center „Jane Sandanski. Cyclists rode from the bike path on the quay at the Holiday Inn Hotel, and motorcyclists from the Lotus Flower Fountain in the City Park. The Minister of Internal Affairs, Oliver Spasovski, also addressed the event in front of all those present:
„ Today's event, i.e. this bicycle and motorcycle parade, for the Ministry of the Interior represents a kind of continuity to our determination of constantly improve traffic safety and of course for the joint action of all stakeholders who in one way or another have the potential and obligation to do everything to establish quality traffic safety standards. It is well known that the Ministry of the Interior, together with the RSBSP for years, have an extremely rich portfolio of joint campaign, educational, regulatory and other projects aimed to improving traffic safety. In addition, especially in terms of educational and professional activities, we also have strong support from our higher education institutions, such as the support from our oldest educational institution in the field of security - the Faculty of Security at University „St. Kliment Ohridski“ - Bitola, so I am convinced that we are moving towards the desired goals - and that is greater civic awareness and responsibility, above all, towards the observance of traffic rules and regulations, better education and prevention, and primarily - greater road traffic safety.
Traffic safety and road safety is also the main focus of the Republic Council for Road Traffic Safety. „Within the framework of its activity, RSBSP organizes and implements a series of educational activities, such as trainings, production of materials, events and campaigns, with which we specifically work on greater education of cyclists and motorcyclists, as well as other road users. In addition, we continuously work on research and analysis, through which weaknesses in road traffic safety are located, as well as possible ways to overcome them. However, for greater safety, the personal responsibility of each traffic participant is key. That's why events like this one today are very important, so I want to make an appeal to the public - each of us affects traffic safety, so let's be careful for ourselves and others and behave responsibly„ - Gordana Kozuvarovska, president of RSBSP.
As part of the long-term traffic safety awareness campaign „I WATCH OUT“, OKTA provided bicycle bells, safety bicycle lights and protective helmets to the parade participants.
„Road safety is one of the priorities in OKTA's corporate social responsibility strategy. That is why we are especially happy for the opportunity to contribute to this important event and to confirm our long-standing commitment to the advancement of traffic safety and culture in the country. Through the „I WATCH OUT“ platform, OKTA has been conducting various activities for the education and support of all road users for six years in a row, with the aim of encouraging greater collective awareness and individual responsibility. Traffic safety is a continuous and joint effort, therefore as a company we will continue to invest resources in the creation of a sustainable culture for safer roadways “- said Marija Stavreva, manager of corporate social responsibility and communications at OKTA.
In 2017, „I WATCH OUT“ campaign was declared as the best national socially responsible practice. As part of the campaign, OKTA has so far implemented numerous initiatives and donations in order to contribute to an increasing traffic safety.
Prof. Dr. Nikola Dujovski, dean of the Faculty of Security at the University „St. Kliment Ohridski“ - Bitola, emphasized the importance of the cooperation and partnership of the various stakeholders in the traffic. He added that the Faculty of Safety is a leading higher education institution whose goal is to produce professional personnel who, through a modern approach and the use of effective tools and tactics, contribute to the improvement of road safety and protection.
„Effectively dealing with all modern challenges and setting up a system that creates conditions for greater security is our priority in the educational process. But in order to achieve this, it is necessary to create a greater awareness among all participants in the traffic, so events of this type are significant for that process. Only through greater cooperation and creation of solid connections will provide a sustainable basis for fast and safe traffic for the modern society“ - added Prof. Dr. Dujovski.
Support for the parade, which was held under the moto „I WATCH OUT AND DRIVE CARREFULLY“ was also given by the organizations – „Motorcycle Club Safety“, „First to the Top“ and the Association for Road and Mountain Biking „Macedonian Bike Riders“.
