New Donation from OKTA: "St. Cyril and Methodius" School in Veles Receives Solar Power Plant

(Skopje, 22.10.2024) OKTA AD – OKTA AD – Skopje has implemented the first of three donations of photovoltaic power plants intended for educational institutions in the country, planned for this year. With the latest donation from OKTA, the primary school "St. Cyril and Methodius" in Veles has received a solar power plant with an installed capacity of 16.1 kW, placed on the roof of the school.
The plant can produce up to 20 MWh (megawatt-hours) of energy from solar rays annually, which will meet the majority of the electricity needs of this school, attended by over 600 students. At the same time, the operation of this solar power plant will enable a reduction of carbon dioxide emissions in the atmosphere by more than nine tons per year.

"Such donor projects are particularly significant for us at OKTA because their realization generates several important benefits for the community. By producing renewable energy from the sun, this plant will significantly reduce the consumption and costs of electricity for this school, while also contributing to a cleaner environment. These projects are our concrete contribution to creating a sustainable future for our community and for future generations, which makes all of us at OKTA especially proud," said Dimitrios Paschos, CEO of OKTA.

Expressing gratitude to OKTA for this exceptionally valuable donation, the mayor of Veles, Marko Kolev, stated: "With the installation of this power plant donated by OKTA, the overall energy efficiency of this school is significantly improved and electricity costs are reduced, allowing us to reallocate those funds for other needs of the school and the educational process. I urge other companies to follow this example and actively participate in implementing projects that increase the share of renewable energy sources in our municipality, thus promoting its overall sustainable development."

In addition to this project, this year, OKTA plans to install photovoltaic power plants on the roof of the "Detska Radost" kindergarten in the municipality of Gevgelija, as well as at the "Marko Božinovski" sports center in the Aerodrom municipality of Skopje, which together will enable an annual production of around 113,000 kWh of renewable energy. Additionally, as part of its donor investment strategy in "green" energy sources, OKTA has already installed similar power plants at three educational institutions in the country last year, with a total installed capacity of over 57 kW.

Through these donations, as well as the photovoltaic plants being installed at its business partners and the investment in the construction of its own photovoltaic plant with a capacity of 12 MW, which is expected to start operating soon, OKTA is significantly contributing to accelerating the energy transition in the country, promoting greater representation of renewable energy sources and enhancing environmental protection.
