OKTA donates a photovoltaic plant for the High School of Economics in Ohrid
Ohrid, 20.09.2023 - As part of the celebration of the company’s 45th jubilee OKTA donated another photovoltaic plant, this time to the Secondary Municipal Economic School “St. Cyril and Methodius” in Ohrid. The donation is in line with the company’s strategy to supporting initiatives related to renewable energy sources, that also reflects in its CSR activities and investments. This power plant, which was officially handed over today, by the Director of Energy Planning & Development at OKTA, PhD Risto Janevski and the Mayor of Ohrid - Kiril Petsakov, will ensure the supply of electricity from renewable sources to the high school.
“In the year when the company celebrates 45 years of its existence, through implementation of these donor projects for supporting the educational institutions in the country, we want to confirm our continuous commitment to perform responsibly in the community in which we all live. Тhe photovoltaic plant will contribute in several important segments in the school’s operations - reducing the consumption of electricity, protection of the environment by using renewable energy sources, as well as raising awareness among students about the importance of sustainable energy solutions. Тhe donation represents a long-term investment in the future of the school, providing sustainable benefits, not only for the future generations of students, but also for the entire community.” - said PhD Risto Janevski, Director of Energy Planning & Development at OKTA.
The total installed power of the new photovoltaic plant is 21.8kW (kilowatts) and can annually produce up to 26.5 MWh (megawatt hours) of electricity, which represents a significant part of the energy needs of the school.
“We are grateful for this significant donation by OKTA, for the construction of a photovoltaic plant on the roof of the school, which represents the crown of the activities that in the past period enabled this high school to get a new, modern look. With this donation, a really significant energy saving will be achieved and the costs of the school will be reduced, which of course is of great importance to us, because it will leave more funds for improving the educational process” - said the Mayor of Ohrid - Kiril Pecakov.
Last month, OKTA donated a photovoltaic power plant for the kindergarten “Pepelashka” in the Municipality of Centar, and soon the company will make two more donations of this type, i.e. a photovoltaic power plant for an educational institution, as well as a solar charger and a bicycle parking that will be installed on the campus of the University “St. Cyril and Methodius” in Skopje.
By the end of the year, OKTA intends to commence the construction of the photovoltaic plant located in the company's installation, with a power of 12 MW (megawatts). As of 2018, OKTA has installed five photovoltaic plants at its business partners with a total capacity of 611 kW (kilowatts). In this way, the company makes an active contribution to increasing its portfolio in the area of renewable energy sources and reducing its environmental footprint.
