OKTA Donates Photovoltaic Plant to Kindergarten in Gevgelija

(02.12.2024) – Investments in renewable energy remain one of the main priorities of OKTA's corporate social responsibility strategy. Today, a new photovoltaic plant was inaugurated in Gevgelija, installed on the roof of the "Detska Radost" kindergarten. This is OKTA's fifth donation of photovoltaic systems installed in schools and kindergartens across various cities in the country over the past two years.

The installed capacity of the photovoltaic plant in Gevgelija is 31.05 kW, with an expected annual renewable energy production of up to 39 MWh. The new plant will enable a significant portion of the kindergarten's electricity needs to be met from renewable sources, contributing to a reduction in CO₂ emissions by approximately 18.4 tons annually.

"A sustainable future for the next generations is our shared goal, and the greatest contribution to achieving it lies in investments in green energy. We believe that with this donation, we are setting a positive example for the entire community, as the benefits are manifold. In addition to achieving significant savings on the kindergarten's electricity costs, this project will also introduce children from an early age to the principles of sustainability and environmental responsibility. Our company remains committed to implementing projects that will contribute to accelerating the country's energy transition," said Dimitrios Paschos, CEO of OKTA.

The kindergarten in Gevgelija is attended by around 260 preschool children. Gevgelija is a city with many sunny days, and through this donation, the municipality will reduce energy costs and strengthen investments in other vital areas that will improve the quality of life.

"We have witnessed that energy has become increasingly expensive in recent years, making local development more challenging as a large part of the municipal budget is spent on this purpose. Finding a long-term solution, such as greater use of renewable energy, is of vital importance. It will provide us with a clean environment and the development of other projects that will ensure greater sustainability, for which the cooperation between the private and public sectors is crucial," said Andon Saramandov, Mayor of Gevgelija.

Among the announced donations for this year in the field of renewable energy sources, the project for a photovoltaic plant at the Marko Bozinovski Sports Center in the Aerodrom municipality in Skopje remains to be realized.

Since 2018, OKTA has been investing in the green energy market, diversifying its business portfolio, by focusing on renewable energy in cooperation with its business partners. So far, the company has installed five rooftop PV plants with a total capacity of 611 kW at its business partners’ sites. In addition to these projects, OKTA is in the final phase of implementing an investment in its own photovoltaic plant with a capacity of 12 MW, which will significantly increase the volume of green energy in its portfolio.
